What matters when arranging engine shipping
A combustion engine is one of the densest consignments in groupage freight: petrol car engines weigh 80 to 150 kg, diesels 120 to 200 kg, truck engines 300 to 800 kg — on less than half a square metre. That point load overwhelms an ordinary euro pallet. Use a reinforced pallet or timber frame and spread the weight across cross-beams.
Secure the engine by the block only, never by attachments. Starter, alternator, manifold and oil pan will not take lashing forces and tear off. Close every open connection with blanking plugs and stand the engine on an oil-absorbent mat — residual oil reliably escapes under vibration. Above 200 kg, book a liftgate; without a loading aid the driver will not lift.
Weight, pallet dimensions and the unloading situation are decisive at booking. Without a ramp or forklift at the recipient, a liftgate must be part of the order. Engines run as a single pallet consignment with one to three business days transit nationwide. For workshops with a vehicle off the road, express shipping almost always pays off: the surcharge sits well below the cost of another idle day.
