What matters when arranging furniture shipping
Furniture is rarely heavy but almost always bulky and pressure-sensitive. Typical damage comes not from being dropped but from neighbouring consignments leaning against an unprotected edge in groupage transport. Edge protection profiles on all outer edges are therefore more effective than thick padding of the surfaces.
High-gloss and lacquered surfaces react badly to stretch film applied directly: in warm conditions it can press into the finish. Put a furniture blanket or bubble wrap underneath. Unscrew feet, handles and loose components and pack them separately with labels — protruding parts are the first thing to break during handling. For sofas over 80 kg, a liftgate is advisable.
State the packed dimensions at booking and whether a ramp is available at the recipient. Furniture almost always goes to private addresses without a ramp, where a liftgate is mandatory or the driver cannot unload. Individual pieces run as oversized consignments, complete interiors as pallet consignments. For delicate single pieces, a direct run without transshipment is often the safer choice.
