What matters when arranging bicycle shipping
Bicycle shipping stands or falls with the carton. A bike box of roughly 180 × 30 × 90 cm is sized for a dismantled bike, not a ride-ready one. Turn the handlebars 90 degrees, remove the pedals, take out the front wheel and secure it alongside the frame. Only then does the bike sit in the box without tension and stop knocking against the walls.
The critical points are the derailleur and the brake discs. The derailleur protrudes sideways and bends under the slightest lateral pressure — unscrew it and lay it inside against the frame. A transport wedge belongs between the brake pads, otherwise they close under vibration. Fit axle spacers in the fork and rear triangle so the dropouts are not squeezed together.
State the carton dimensions when packed at booking, not the frame size. A packed bike typically measures 180 × 30 × 90 cm and weighs 12 to 18 kg, which makes it an oversized consignment rather than a parcel. Transit time is one to three business days nationwide. For bicycle dealers with seasonal business, agreeing capacity early in spring is advisable.
