What matters when arranging big bag shipping
Big bags have no fixed shape, and that is exactly what makes them demanding in groupage transport. A filled bag deforms under its own weight, tips under braking and cannot be stacked. Always set it on a pallet and secure it with strapping or film so that it forms a rigid loading unit.
Mind the loops: they are designed for vertical pull, not lateral load. Damaged or frayed loops mean the bag cannot be lifted during handling. For free-flowing goods, check the liner closure — escaping material contaminates the entire loading area and triggers cleaning charges.
For booking we need the fill weight, the outer dimensions when filled and the nature of the contents. Non-hazardous bulk goods run as a standard pallet consignment. As soon as the contents carry a UN number, ADR applies with its own declaration. Also confirm whether a forklift or crane is available at the recipient — a filled big bag cannot be set down safely by liftgate alone.
