What matters when arranging building material shipping
With building materials the weight limit almost always decides, not the footprint. A pallet of tiles or cement bags reaches 1,000 to 1,500 kg on barely a square metre. Check the pallet rating in advance: a standard euro pallet is designed for 1,500 kg static load, and lower figures apply in transit.
The unloading point is decisive. Building sites rarely have a ramp and seldom a forklift on standby. Book a liftgate with the shipment — without loading aid the driver cannot set heavy pallets down, and the consignment returns to the depot at your cost. Also state whether the access road takes an articulated lorry.
Give the weight per pallet, the number of pallets and the unloading situation at booking. Those three details determine vehicle and price. For recurring site deliveries, scheduled deliveries beat standard shipping: the time is binding, and the crane or forklift operator does not have to stand by all day. For oversize items or weights above 1,500 kg per unit, clarify the vehicle type in advance.
