What matters when arranging tyre shipping
Tyres are the classic case where volumetric and actual weight diverge sharply. Eight summer tyres in size 205/55 R16 weigh around 70 kg but occupy a full euro pallet. Freight is calculated on the loading metres you claim, so stacking rather than laying tyres side by side lowers the cost noticeably.
Tyres without rims are stacked flat and bound into a single unit with stretch film, typically four to eight per stack. A closed layer of film over the top tread matters: it keeps moisture out and stops individual tyres working loose during handling. Studded tyres should be labelled, as they can damage neighbouring consignments.
State the quantity, tyre size and total weight at booking, not just the pallet dimensions. That determines whether the consignment runs as a pallet or as groupage units. For tyre dealers shipping regularly, a framework agreement makes sense: volumes are predictable, pickup times recurring, and tiered pricing applies from the second consignment. Seasonal peaks in spring and autumn should be registered early.
