Can lithium-ion batteries be shipped by freight forwarder?
Yes. Lithium-ion batteries (UN 3480) fall under ADR hazardous goods class 9 and may be transported by freight forwarder, provided packaging, labelling and documentation comply with regulations. NexCargo handles the complete ADR processing.
What applies to e-bike batteries and pedelec batteries?
E-bike batteries up to 100 Wh are classified as "small lithium batteries" and can be shipped with simplified documentation. Batteries over 100 Wh require complete ADR labelling. The battery must be separated from the e-bike and packaged separately.
How do I package a battery correctly for transport?
Batteries must be completely discharged (below 30% charge level), placed in stable, non-conductive packaging (rigid foam or plastic box) and shipped with insulated contacts. Hazardous goods labels (class 9) must be affixed on the outside.
Can solar storage and high-voltage storage also be shipped?
Yes. We transport home storage (e.g. BYD, Pylontech, Sonnen), high-voltage storage for commercial use and industrial battery systems. These require individual ADR advice – contact us for a tailored quote.
How much does battery shipping cost?
Small battery packs (under 5 kg) start from €49. Larger systems like e-bike batteries on pallet from €69, solar storage from €119. For individual quotes use our price calculator or call us.
